Summer dating dos and don'ts

Summer Love Tips

Dating in the summer can be tricky. Sure, there’s a lot to do and there are a lot of great places to meet guys, but there are also some important things to keep in mind. To help ensure you have your best summer yet where dating is concerned, we put together some dos and don’ts to keep in mind.

Do be open for anything

Summer is a time to let loose and try new things. Rather than spending the next two months waiting for Mr. Right to come along, try dating against-type, asking someone out you might normally not talk to or simply spending time with new people -- you never know what can happen! This also means saying yes to invitations from friends -- for anything from camping trips to pool parties. The more you’re open to things, the more fun you’ll have.

Don’t get too serious

If you do meet someone you’re into, don’t get too serious too fast. It is summer after all and most people are in favor of more causal relationships when the weather heats up. We’re not saying the guy you met won’t still be around come Labor Day, but be careful not to get too attached. At least wait until you’re sure he feels the same way before you start thinking about him as your number one catch.

Do focus on fun

The sun is out and the sky is blue -- patios, BBQs and pools are on your daily schedule. Summer is all about having fun! This means not pining away for last year’s summer fling, avoiding a meltdown if the guy from last weekend’s party didn’t call you back and focusing on the positive rather than any negative dating issues that may pop up. For every guy that doesn’t text or call, there will be another, better one who will.

Don’t pressure yourself

Not every summer has to mean finding a fling or date for every pool party and backyard bash. Avoid putting any pressure on yourself when it comes to guys because otherwise, you won’t enjoy yourself. Summer isn’t about finding a guy -- it’s about having a great time with your friends and family and taking advantage of everything this much-too-short season has to offer.
